Abstract: We should state that as far as a political speech is an example of publicist style of speaking, it counts dozens of stylistic devices and expressive means in order to make speech more pleasant and comprehensible for the audience. Inaugural addresses are there to build a connection between a newly elected president and the people of the state who do not want to hear dry aristocratic language from the grand platforms but live and natural speech. Among expressive means the most typical for political speeches of American presidents are climax, inversion and comparative constructions, and among stylistic devices – comparison, metaphor, anaphor, rhetorical questions and antithesis.
