Abstract

Дослідники творчості Л.М. Силко переконані, що сади із різних кінців світу у її останньому романі «Сади в дюнах» мають наводити читача на думку про Едемський сад, проте жоден із дослідників не звернув уваги на показову деталь. Хетті (аспірантка Стенфорду і одна із головних героїнь роману) ознайомлюється із гностичними текстами в бібліотеці доктора Райхарта, що також є земним утіленням краси Едемського саду: «Бібліотека Др. Ринехарта перевищила всі сподівання Хетті. Величезна кількість древніх манускриптів у скляних горщечках і фоліанти часів ранньої церкви, розміщені на полицях від підлоги до самої стелі, мали такий вигляд, що в Хетті захопило дух. Вона із завмиранням пройшла між полицями, вдихаючи запах шкіряних стрічок, що утримували фоліанти, і клею. Її привернула краса стрічок; розміщення книг на полицях було чітко організоване, але не за авторами, назвами чи за часом написання. Там і тут томики, пов’язані червоною шкірою або темнопомаранчевим пергаментом, були зібрані в кетяги поміж бежевих, темнокоричневих і яскраво-зелених томів, палітурки з чорної шкіри слугували облямівкою, складалося враження наче в прекрасному дивному саду».

The solution to the problem of Native American national identity as identification with the universal worldview and cultural worlds, their resistance to the contradictions of cosmopolitan self-awareness and leveling of personal authenticity should be sought in the transcendent self-determinations of these peoples. The search for national identity as the main artistic trend in the formation of the literary process of the indigenous peoples of the continent is quite traceable through the image of Eternal femininity. The aim of this article is to study the relationship of the Christian paradigm with the traditional beliefs of American Indians in the novel Gardens in the Dunes by Leslie Marmon Silko. The study hypothesizes that national identity as a discursive identification through the image of Devine Women in modern indigenous text, analyzed in terms of historical, cultural, narrative, mental, topological, integrative, communicative, artistic perspectives, allows to concretize that Silko’s novel in the structure of US literature and modern literature is a stable cultural and artistic phenomenon.
